Jaco Van Dyk was born on the 28th of March 1988 in Bloemfontein, South Africa. After matriculating from VET College in Polokwane, Jaco went on to study Graphic Design at CTU Training Solutions, Potchefstroom where he graduated in 2009. In 2010 Jaco completed his editing and videography studies at The School of Video Production Media Village in Durbanville, Cape Town. The following year Jaco interned at AlienBrain HD Production under the tutelage of Herman van Deventer Snr, honing his craft in Visual Communication. Since the age of 12 Jaco has educated himself in the realms of editing and photography software and shares a passion for filmmaking in all its forms. On weekends he would spend his allowance on renting films, watching them over and over again and studying them in order to absorb as much as he could.
Jaco has worked on various music video productions for the likes of Arista Paxton, Riku Latti, Charle and Fanie Velskoen. He was also part of the production team that filmed the International Congress for Heart Surgeons at the Cape Town Conference Centrum. Jaco has taken part in the 48 Hour Film Project in 2016, started a production company called Bright-lens Productions in 2013 and has even studied in the Culinary Arts at Ketala Chefs Academy. Jaco was then contracted to work for a Media Broadcasting Company in 2020, DigiTvSA in which he was given the opportunity to work hands on with students at both the Ligbron Academy of Technology and Saamtrek Primary School as Video Producer, filming sporting events while simultaneously teaching his students the basics of Video Production and Editing. His star pupils included Prudence Mahlango, Rose Mahlango & Mpho Ramasetse. He held this job which he held for 2 years until March 2021 when his contract was ended due to Covid-19 related retrenchments. In 2020 Jaco contracted Covid-19 in a serious case that ultimately came to a close in triumph with Jaco still standing strong. In August 2021 Jaco moved to Sedgefield, living with his parents.
Passionate, driven and creative, Jaco aims to break down the door and enter the film industry and share his vision as an independent filmmaker. Bright-lens still operates with the next frontier in his sights being that of localized online content with his own online broadcasting website called Lekka Lokal TV, currently still under construction.
Jaco currently does freelance editing work for Paraglide Africa, Wilderness whilst co-writing an ambitious Afrikaans gothic horror feature film titled “Die Vloek van 'n Dobbelsteen” along with several other projects. Jaco currently lives and works in Sedgefield, Western Cape.
From the time I contacted Jaco he was 100% on board to create a memorable and
beautiful video recording and tribute of the celebration of life of my beloved husband,
Dougie Nel. Jaco treated me with utmost kindness and respect, and went out of his way
to videograph favorite spots that Dougie loved to visit! I would highly recommend Jaco
to videograph your special occasion - let him help you make visual good memories!
